Replacing Storm Door?

Actually I'm replacing a vintage screen door with a all glass storm door. When they built houses back in 1950 (as I've learned over the years) nothing came in a standard size. What is the best way to measure for the new door? Measure the door I'm replacing, or measure the inside door frame.

Are wooden storm doors as energy efficient as aluminum storm doors? Is the difference in price worth it?
