Prediabetes?

I'm 24, 5'5, 185 and I have been diagnosed with prediabetes. My doctor has prescribed 1000 mg of Metformin a day and will increase it to 2000 a day. I exercise ( I am training for the bolder boulder and could run my fastest mile in under nine minutes) and i eat pretty healthy ( i don't drink soda). What can I expect from this medicine regime? is any one else like me? who has beat pre-diabetes?
Will metformin help me lose weight?
